Our client, Hawkesbury Community Services (HCS) is seeking a qualified and experienced professional to join their team in the role of Family Case Worker in their Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) program.

 

HCS a locally based non-government organisation funded by NSW Department of Family and Community Services through Mission Australia to provide services under the SHS program in the Hawkesbury LGA. HCS is a Christian organisation auspiced by Hawkesbury Church so it is important all staff have a willingness to work within the Mission, Vision & Values of HCS.

Your new job…

This role will provide an integrated casework and case management service to families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, within a strength - based solution - focused framework. This includes the provision of information, referral, advocacy, crisis support.

 

The role is Part Time at 18 hours per week, which can be worked over 3 days per week and is permanent as funding allows. Salary will be paid in accordance with the NSW SCHADS Award and this role will be classified at Level 5, Pay Point 1. The role is based in Windsor, but will require some travel throughout the Hawkesbury LGA for home visits and other commitments as necessary. Therefore, a current driver’s license and a comprehensively insured vehicle is required.

What you'll need to succeed…

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Science, Social Work, Community Services or other relevant field

  • Experience in case management and preparing/maintaining case notes, plans and reports

  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting on homeless families

  • Demonstrated experiencing in working with clients to address a range of vulnerabilities i.e. accommodation, drug & alcohol misuse, unemployment, mental health, family and domestic violence

  • High level of organisational & time management skills and the ability to work within tight timeframes

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Child Protection Legislation and Regulation, including knowledge of the NSW Keep Them Safe Initiative and an employee’s role as a Mandatory Reporter

  • Commitment to a strengths-based, solution focused approach to good practice developments in the provision of effective services to families

  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be self-directed

  • Excellent communication skills including advocacy, conflict resolution and high level written skills

  • Sound computer skills including use of data and case management reporting tools

  • A current NSW Driver’s License and ongoing access to a registered & comprehensively insured vehicle

  • Willingness to undergo a National Criminal Background Check and also current NSW Working with Children Check clearance for paid employment

Other desirable criteria includes...

  • Demonstrated ability to work with families who are experiencing homelessness or who are at imminent risk of homelessness 

  • Senior First Aid Certificate

  • Knowledge of the local sector and local service system

  • Cultural competence and experience working alongside Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander families and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse families

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the 10 Practice Principles of Family Work (FaMS)
